How To Download Ableton Live Lite For Akai
Setup

Note:Ableton Live 9.1.3 or later is required for use with APC40 MKII. If you have an earlier version Ableton the instructions in this guide will not work.

  1. First connect the APC 40 MKII to your computer into an open USB port. The APC is a Class Compliant Plug-and-Play device and will not require additional driver installation.
  2. Once the APC is connected to your computer, powered on, and ready to use, open up Ableton Live.
  3. Go to Options > Preferences. On a Macintosh computer you would select Live > Preferences.
  4. In the window that opens select the MIDI Sync tab on the left hand side.
  5. Next select the APC40 MkII for Control Surface, Input, and Output.
  6. In the same window, under MIDI Ports turn on Track, Sync, and Remote for the Input.
  7. You can then close the Preferences window as you are now ready to go!

MPD and MPK Series Hardware Setup
  1. First, connect the Akai MPD or MPK series controller to an available USB port on your computer using the supplied (or alternate functional) USB cable and power the controller on.
  2. Press the PRESET button and use the data dial to scroll to Preset: 1 LiveLite. Press the PUSH TO ENTER knob.
  3. Press the GLOBAL button to enter the Global settings menu. Press the right arrow key until the display reads MIDI CLK. Use the rotary knob to select External.
  4. Hit the right arrow key until the display reads Globals. Press the PUSH TO ENTER knob to save the settings.
  5. Press the PRESET button to return to the LiveLite preset screen.
Ableton Live 9 Lite Software Setup
  1. First, connect the Akai MPD or MPK series controller to an available USB port on your computer using the supplied cable, and launch Ableton Live 9 Lite.
  2. Next, open the Ableton Live 9 Lite Preferences window. Choose your Audio Device in the Audio tab. This will be dependent upon the audio interface that you are using. MAC:
    Select Live > Preferences
    or use the key command shortcut - [Command + comma]


    PC:
    Select Options > Preferences
    or use the key command shortcut - [Control + comma]


  3. Select the MIDI / Sync tab from the left side of the window. Within the MIDI Ports section, adjust the settings as suggested below: Next to Input: MPK49, toggle On the button in the Track, Sync and Remote columns as shown in the image below.

  4. Next, at the top of the window under Control Surface, choose MPK49 from the drop-down list in row 1. Also, choose MPK49 from the Input and Output drop-down menus in row 1.
